Name: Wawaeʻiole Collection: Native Hawaiian Plant (9 out of 30)
Wawaeʻiole (Huperzia mannii) is a rare native Hawaiian plant that grows hanging off trees like ʻōhiʻa and koa in our mountain forests. It’s found on Kauaʻi, Maui, and Hawaiʻi Island, but with only about 35 plants left, it’s considered critically endangered. It’s facing threats from habitat damage caused by animals like pigs and cattle, along with invasive plants. Efforts are being made to protect what’s left and grow new populations so this species doesn’t disappear.
Original art made with acrylic and fine liner pen painting on 4x6 300 gsm watercolor paper, sealed with satin varnish. Sleeved, matted (5x7 mat), signed, and dated on the back with certificate of authenticity.
